The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

Abel Gance's film Napoleon 1927

The scene seems to take place en hiver. There was a lot of snow. It shows a lot of kids dressing up with a school uniform.they had a snowball  fight between them. In fact, it seems like one of the kid has Been bullied by his classmate  because you can see that all the kids was hitting on him. Also, the white and black reflection of Napoleon means that he was unhappy.

I choose this Scene because my nephew has been bullied in his school. It was very hard for him focus in school, to make friends and  was all sad if the time because he left unaccepted? The films try to shows the earlier life story of Napoleon.it relates to the class because the class is about nihilism, they probably don't think that bully is something that affect someone emotionally ?

Siddhartha assignment

"God is immanent (or inside) meaning that God is not seen as personal entity existing outside the universe, but is inside the universe, or the universe itself. The chief difficulty has always been explaining what is the origin of difference if unity is the ultimate reality"?

I think it means that God is peace, love, unity , is  what you believe in . Is doing the right thing and help one another. This passage is important for me because some people doesn't know the truth meaning of god, they think that going to church every Sunday  is being in contact with god. Being  in contact with god is love each other, being honest and remain  faithful to one another. It basically your
conscience of what is wrong or right.

Pictures assigments

Summary of his life: He was an American artist, a musician and a producer. He was born in Brooklyn New York .He was a neo-expressionist painter in the 1980s.He was born in December 22, 1969 and died in august 12 1988.

Title of the piece and date: Fallen angel, 1981

I love this picture. It says a lot just at looking at it; it looks like a devil. Basquiat used color like yellow that is the color of betrayal and red that mean blood for this picture. The picture represents anger and hate that exist in the society. I think he is trying to say that god doesn’t exist because from religious view, an angel is a messenger of god .The artist trying to convey that the idea that god exist is a myth, that even the angel that is a devil itself.

Title of the piece and date:Untitled (skull), " Jean Michel Basquiat, 1984

In the painting, the head look damaged; it looks like he was beaten. They were stiches all over the head and were broken at certain places. When looking at the face, it looks angry and sad. I think the painting could represent Basquiat early life story. He trying to explain all he has been through before he reached his goals. The artist trying to convey that no one is perfect, no matter what happens in life, keep your head up and do what you have to do.

Title of the piece and date: “ Adolf the superman: Swallows Gold and Spouts junk,’’ John Heartfield, 1932

Quote
“The roots of expressionism are seen in artists, something called post impressionists”. Nihilist  spoke about the importance of art, they mean that it is through art that people can fully express what they feeling inside. The authors saying this because it should be very traumatize to talk about a difficult situation or time. Art can be therapeutic by helping people who had experience World War 1 and world 2 to deal with the pain by drawing what they have on their mind.

I choose this quote because art is a creative way to tell a story. In strongly agree with because some events can be hard to talk about, so drawing is a better way to let other understand what was going on. Yes, this quote challenge me a little, just thinking about how hard it must be for those who had lost their loves one during the war, so art would give those people a change by drawing some of the good memories they had with their loved one.

Yes, it does related to something going on in present. Today, therapists use art therapy when working with children who have been abused either physically or sexually. This method help the therapist to interpret the drawing and have an idea of what going on.

Nietzche's quote

Doubt as sin.-- Christianity has done its utmost to close the circle and declared even doubt to be sin. One is supposed to be cast into belief without reason, by a miracle, and from then on to swim in it as in the brightest and least ambiguous of elements: even a glance towards land, even the thought that one perhaps exists for something else as well as swimming, even the slightest impulse of our amphibious nature- is sin! And notice that all this means that the foundation of belief and all reflection on its origin is likewise excluded as sinful. What is wanted are blindness and intoxication and an eternal song over the waves in which reason has drowned.

Nietzsche quote

It basically means that we don’t have to follow rules, because society created rules to make us behave a certain way, and force us to believe that those rules really exist.

It applies today, we do certain things not because we want to but because we believe it is the right things to do based on what we have been told . Also, we don’t want to be judge by other people when we fail to do what they expected us to do.

The German society

The German society is a modern society. According to the world fact book, 6.1 percent are foreign residents, which are those not having German citizenship, and the remaining 91.5 percent are German. The official language in Germany is German but they also recognized four other languages as regional languages under the European chapter, such as Lower Sorbian, North Frisian and so on. In addition, 68 percent’s of the population are followers of Christian religion, with the two main churches, the catholic and the Protestants. Also, 3.7 percent are Muslim and 28.3 percent are non-religious. Furthermore, the German population was counted to be 80,996, 685 on July 2014 making it the 18th most populous country in the world. Based on the world fact book, Germany has a population with more people over the age of 25 to 54 years old than any other group. Also, as 2014, 20.9 percent are 65 and older. Out of the 20.9 percent, it was estimated that 9,659,265 of them are female. Surprisingly, the population rate has drop from 0.18 percent. In addition, the death rates are higher while the birth rate is lower, so it basically means the population growth rate is also decline. The life expectancy is 80 years old.
